John Albert Laylo was a government attorney who was fatally shot in Philadelphia and called for the perpetrator to be brought to justice.
Laylo and his mother were heading to the airport to board a flight early Saturday when someone in a black car fired several rounds into their Uber at a red light near the University of Pennsylvania, police said. Laylo was shot in the back of the head and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead Sunday, police said.
Philippine Consul General Elmer Cato met Laylo’s mother at the hospital and said she was slightly injured by glass fragments during the shooting.

Police say a man visiting Philadelphia from the Philippines is dead from a single gunshot wound to the head. Police confirmed the victim is John Albert Laylo, a government attorney from the Philippines, according to the country’s consulate general.
Laylo and his mother were in an Uber around 4:10 a.m. on Saturday headed from University City to Philadelphia International Airport when as many as 15 shots were fired into the rear window and driver’s side of the car at 38th and Spruce Streets, Police say.

Officers transported Laylo to Penn Presbyterian Hospital after responding to the shooting where he was placed in extremely critical condition. Police say Laylo had been on life support Sunday morning when he died. He was pronounced dead at 10:33 a.m., authorities say.

It wasn’t clear if the Uber driver was injured. No one has been arrested. Authorities did not disclose a suspected motive or say whether Laylo, his mother, or the Uber driver were intentionally targeted.
Police say the investigation at this time shows the shooting was random, possibly road-rage related, CBS Philadelphia reported.
The consulate general of the Philippines said the victim was an attorney for its government, the station reported.
