A 21-year-old Colorado man has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of two women and a man at a home in Aurora on Friday.
Christopher Martinez was arrested Saturday morning at about 5:30 a.m., 24 hours after family members first contacted police for a welfare check at the residence, the Aurora Police Department said.
Officers arrived on the scene at about 5:15 p.m. on Friday but saw nothing suspicious and nothing that could justify forcing entry into the house. The officers left after informing the family.
About an hour and a half later, family members arrived at the house ad gained entry. Inside they found the three unresponsive victims, all apparently suffering from gunshot wounds.
They were pronounced dead a short time later.
Detectives investigated throughout the night before taking Martinez into custody early on Saturday. Police said they initially encountered him Friday night at the scene and that he was known to the victims, who were all members of the same family.
Their identities have not been released pending positive confirmation and notification of relatives.
“This senseless violence is inexplicable,” said interim Aurora Police Chief Art Acevedo. “Thanks to the efforts of our dedicated personnel, the suspect has been taken into custody and our community can breathe a collective sigh of relief. Our hearts go out to the family of the victims.”
KCNC searched Arapahoe County court records and said they saw no criminal history for a 21-year-old Christopher Martinez.
